Lately I’ve realized that if I’d like to be taken seriously by serious people who don’t already know me, I’ll have to submit some evidence that I might be worthy of their regard. I do love writing jokes and ad copy, but that certainly isn’t all I do.
Embarrassingly enough, I’ve spent the past 15 years donating a lot of “content” to Facebook. In my defense, that’s where my friends are! When I want to talk about important things with the people I respect most…well, they all happen to be gathered in once convenient place, and that place has a fairly user-friendly publishing platform, so that’s where I go. I am always staggeringly grateful to be read, and it isn’t something I take for granted. Attention is currency and I know I have to earn it.
Is Facebook a gaping hellmouth devouring everything left of our once-noble civilization? Probably.
But I still say it’s not as bad as Twitter, and in any event it’s the devil I know.
I do plan to migrate all of my writing over here, but in the meantime I asked some friends what they’ve read from me in the past that they consider memorable. Here are links to a few of their answers:
